Regional Open Dance Competition

 

Guidelines

MAY 7, 2017 | Vigan Convention Center

• Open to all dance groups of Region 1
• There will be 3 categories

• Hip Hop
• Contemporary
• Dancesports

A. Elem
B. High school/ college
C. Amateur
D. Professionals

For Hip Hop and Contemporary, dance group should be composed of 8 – 15 dancers:

• Strictly no props will be used for the two categories
• Dancers should be 16 to 35 for both category

HIP HOP GUIDELINES

• Dance must run from a minimum of 2 minutes to 3 minutes maximum.
• Only canned music shall be used and must be submitted to the organizers in the morning of May 7, 2017. Profanity is strictly prohibited.
• Stunts, somersaults, lifts, tumblings and other forms of acrobatic feats are allowed but the city government will not be held liable for any untoward incidents

CONTEMPORARY

• Dance must focus on nationalism or the environment
• It must run from a minimum of 2 minutes to 3 mins maximum
• Only canned music shall be used and must be submitted to the organizers in the morning of May 7, 2017
• Dancers should be barefooted. Pointe shoes may be worn but should be in color flesh
• Live acts such as talking and group speech are prohibited
• Dances that promote satanic rituals, political protest, sexual and suggestive gestures are not allowed.

DANCESPORT

A. ELEMENTARY

• Couple will compete in 3 Latin dances (cha-cha, rumba & Jive
• Participants can pick their own choice of music but should follow strict timing of dances
• 2 minutes routine for all dances except for Jive which is 1 minute and 30 second
• Vulgar, obscene and indecent poses are grounds for demerit
• There will be a warm-up dance (Cha-cha) for all competing couples before the contest. Music will be provided by the organizer.
• Costume for women should be in one piece and one color
• Dancing shoes should have at least ½ inch to 1-inch heels
• Costume for men: trousers should be black
• Shirt of men should be collared, long sleeved and tucked in. Should be black or as the same color of the partners dress

B. HIGH SCHOOL/COLLEGE

• Couples will compete in 5 Latin Dances (cha-cha, samba, rumba, paso-doble, Jive). Can pick their own music but should follow strict timing of said dances
• 1 minute & 30 seconds routine for all dances except for Jive which is 1 minute only
• Vulgar, obscene and indecent poses are grounds for demerit
• There will be a warm-up dance (Cha-cha) for all competing couples before the contest. Music will be provided by the organizer.
• No lifts or other unrelated stunts are allowed during the whole duration of the dance
• Strictly no props and wardrobe change during the contest proper
• Costume for women should be in one piece. Any material besides sees through and color flesh. Panty-line should be completely covered with a skirt. Panties should be black or as the same color of the dress. Breast area should be covered or concealed Shoes should have at least 2 inches of heels. Avoid accessories which have sharp edges.
• Costume for men: Trousers should be black. Shirt of men should be collared, lone sleeves and tucked in. Should be black or as the same color of the partner’s dress.

Note: College/high school students with experiences competing in the National Level (ex. Palarong Pambansa) should fall in the Amateur catefory.

C. AMATEUR

• Amateur competitors are defined as couples who are non-students, experience in citywide and regional competitions only.
• Couples will compete in 5 Latin Dances (cha-cha, samba, rumba, paso-doble, Jive). Can pick their own music but should follow strict timing of said dances
• 1 minute & 30 seconds routine for all dances except for Jive which is 1 minute only
• Vulgar, obscene and indecent poses are grounds for demerit
• There will be a warm-up dance (Cha-cha) for all competing couples before the contest. Music will be provided by the organizer.
• NO lifts or other unrelated stunts are allowed during the whole duration of the dance
• Strictly no props and wardrobe change during the contest proper

D. PROFESSIONAL

• Professional competitors are defined as couples with experiences in competing at the national level, international level and currently, holds a rank in the IDSF.

• 1 minute & 30 seconds routine for all dances except for Jive which is 1 minute only
• Vulgar, obscene and indecent poses are grounds for demerit
• There will be a warm-up dance (Cha-cha) for all competing couples before the contest. Music will be provided by the organizer.
