In anticipation of Typhoon “Emong” making landfall by 1:00 AM on July 25, the Vigan City Government, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), held a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting this morning, July 24, led by Mayor Randy Singson.

Present were Vice Mayor Atty. Glendale Benzon, members of the 9th City Council, CDRRMC members, and volunteers from VERT and VYERT. The PAGASA forecasts emphasize the storm’s threat to coastal and low-lying areas, with potential for strong winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding.

Mayor Singson raised concerns over saturated soil from recent rains, increasing landslide risks. He urged barangays to conduct pre-emptive evacuations, particularly in vulnerable areas and for families with elderly, pregnant women, children, and PWDs. Tree pruning and mitigation efforts were also ordered.

Emergency support systems are on full alert. CDRRMO Milagros Alquiza affirmed 24/7 readiness, while other frontline offices, health teams, and response units including school evacuation centers, food supply, and transport are fully mobilized. ISECO is assisting in pruning near power lines and called on residents to report hazards.

An afternoon emergency session finalized readiness plans, including pre-emptive evacuation at 4:00 PM and intensified community monitoring between and among the Barangay DRRMCs and the City.

The City Government remains on high alert and fully committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of all Bigueños.
