In a move to boost local livelihood and promote sustainable agriculture, 25 Bigueño farmers received duck-raising support from the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur in partnership with the City Government of Vigan on August 11, 2025.

The ceremonial distribution of ducks was held at the Safari Grounds in Ayusan Sur, graced by City Mayor Randy Singson, along with Vice Mayor Atty. Glendale Benzon, SPMs Karen Baquiran, Nestor Pajaro, Edmund Ayco, ABC Vice President Enrico Shawn Patrick Singson, PPSK Vice President Carl Louie Alquetra, and City Veterinary Officer Dr. Rayeth Robeniol.

The City Government of Vigan provided each beneficiary with a starter set of ducks, along with vital support such as duck housing materials, feed, and veterinary medicines, ensuring they are equipped for a successful start.

To further strengthen the initiative, a comprehensive four-day training program was conducted covering the basics of duck-raising, including balut and red egg production. This initiative is part of the city and province’s ongoing efforts to empower local farmers, promote agri-preneurship, and uplift rural communities through sustainable livelihood programs.

This integrated approach—combining training, livestock distribution, and ongoing veterinary support—aims to improve the farmers’ income and food security in the region.
