On February 16, 2024, the City Government of Vigan, together with the Department of Agriculture, held the inauguration of the Swine Multiplier and Techno Demo Farm as part of the DA’s INSPIRE (Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion) program at Barangay Cabaroan Daya, Vigan City.
The ceremony started with the blessing of the facility, officiated by Fr. Marlon Belmonte and was attended by city officials led by City Mayor Jose “Bonito” Singson,Jr. and Acting Vice Mayor SPM Janina Medina-Fariñas.
Furthermore, Governor Jeremias Singson was represented by PBM Christopher Baterina and DA Undersecretary DV Savellano through Mr. Fortunato Ines and Mr. Tirso Savellano, and representatives from DA Region I and the Provincial Veterinary Office also attended the event.
The said project serves as the rehabilitation program of the city since the hit of African Swine Fever in 2021 and was funded by the Department of Agriculture through DA-Agricultural Training Institute Region I, amounting to ten million pesos.
Five million of which are for the building of the facility, three million for 38 breeder gilts, and two million for feeds and zoologics.
In his speech, Mayor Bonito said this will help the city with its very own product, the Vigan Longganisa. Mayor Singson also wants to expand this kind of project to other barangays in the city to sustain the meat and livestock for the city.
