Heritage City Vigan celebrates its Second Year of New Normal Solidarity Week

As the Heritage City of Vigan celebrate its second year of New Normal Solidarity Week, the City Government of Vigan led by Mayor Juan Carlo Medina and through the City Events and Promotion and Protocol Office conducted various activities last September 6- 16, 2021 wherein the celebration was officially opened through the annual On The Spot Painting and Letras Y Figuras competition at Fil-Spanish Friendship Park, Mira Hills, Vigan City.

Due to threat of COVID-19, most of the activities were held virtually wherein contestants sent their entries via recorded files.

CEPPO Edred Piamonte said that this year’s celebration was open not just for the Biguenos but for the Ilocos Surians as well.

The highlights of the celebration were the Solidarity mass and renewal of pledge to heritage conservation last September 8, 2021 at Vigan Cathedral in which City Officials and employees attended the said event.

“The real essence of the celebration is to keep the Biguenos culture and tradition alive amidst in this challenging and changing time.” Mayor Medina said.

“May our commitment towards heritage conservation continue for our beloved heritage city to further prosper for this is our unique identity to the world.” He added.

The awarding of winners were held at the Vigan City Hall Lobby in which per event’s winners were scheduled per day to ensure the safety of the awardees and the staffs.
