Alay Lakad 2010, a walk for the out-of-school youth

Alay Lakad in Vigan City was conducted last September 26. Mayor Eva led the city councilors, barangay officials and members of NGOs, NGAs and civic-spirited organizations in this annual event.
The walk started at 6:00 A.M. from the identified starting points: Camanggaan, Rugsuanan, Pantay Fatima, Bulala and Salindeg. They later converged at Plaza Burgos for a short program. Child representatives of the City Council for the Protection of Children started the program with Daryl Hipolito of Ilocos Sur National High School leading the invocation, Joanna Irene Bilan of the Vigan National High School West conducting the singing of the National Anthem, Jermaine Unciano of Burgos Memorial School West delivering the welcome address and Leah Ann Raboy giving the closing remarks. Mr. Joshua Farpali, Alternative Learning System (ALS) graduate gave a response. Mayor Eva with the city councilors awarded the plaques of appreciation to the top 3 donors (with the highest contributions) namely: Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ilocos Sur, City Organization of Vigan Employees and the Gabriela Silang General Hospital. They also turned over an Educational Vehicle for ALS and a laptap for the mobile library of DepEd through ALS DepED coordinator Mrs. Janet Bersamina with Mr. Anselmo Aludino, ALS program supervisor as witness.
City Treasurer Milagros Contreras reported that total contributions in 2009 was P110,105.93 (see page 11) which funded a computer laptap for ALS, skills training on basic electricity and on Christmas lantern making.
Committed to the welfare of the youth, the city government called for all to support this walk-for-a-cause project which benefits the out-of-school youths.
