The Longganisa Festival has become of the most awaited festivity in the northern Luzon that aside from flocks of tourist from both local and international, the festivity also strengthen and was able to share its vibrant and continuous tradition and culture through its various activities. Last January 18, 2023 the City Government of Vigan marks the beginning of the week-long celebration of this Year’s Viva Vigan Longganisa Festival through the Inter – Barangay Zumba Competition which was attended by the various Health and Zumba enthusiast of the city at Plaza Burgos, Vigan City. City Vice Mayor Randy Singson together with the other members of the 8th City Council personally joined the event.
After a thorough judging of the five competing teams from Barangay Pantay Fatima, Ayusan Norte, Paratong, Barangay IX and Nagsanglan, the following were declared as winners which they received cash prizes and trophy while non-winners got consolation prize.

On her welcome speech, SPM Karen Baquiran highlighted that Zumba has become more than just a dance to every Biguena, it became an avenue for our fellow women to promote health and wellness as well as creating strong relationship and camaraderie among peers.
Know that the City Government of Vigan prioritized the promotion of well-being such as Zumba dance session and proper eating diet that will lead us towards the realization of our dreams and aspirations. She added.
On the other hand, Vice Mayor Randy Singson delivered the speech of Mayor Jose “Bonito” Singson Jr. were he expressed his warmest gratitude for the constant support of the City’s various Zumba group to the City Government of Vigan. He also said that it is important that each of the city’s sector is being highlighted or represented especially during the annual festival.
As the City Government of Vigan’s constantly value the importance of education and wholesome development of Bigueno children, the City Government of Vigan steered the annual academic day for Vigan City through the Education Day and Night last January 21, 2023. The various academic competitions were held at Vigan Convention Center while the socialization night of the City’s Educators as well as school and university staff was held at the Plaza Burgos.

On her speech, Vigan City Schools Division Superintendent Ms. Gemma Tacuycuy gratified the City Government of Vigan for its constant partnership with the Department of Education as well as for giving annual participation to the festivity which enable the students and teachers of both public and private schools in the city to congregate and establish relationship.

The traditional Vigan City Day was regained after years of restrictions brought by the pandemic. Face-to-face competitions were again held in front of the Vigan City Hall last January 22, 2023 such as the Longganisa Cooking Competition in which different hotels, restaurants and students from high schools and colleges in the city joined the event. New Logganisa Dishes were presented during the event that really showcased the native product of Vigan City as well as the unique styles and presentation of the participants were highlighted.

In the afternoon, flocks of people both from local and international witnessed the annual Longganisa Festival Street Dancing Competition wherein loud beats of drums and colorful costumes and props filled the Plaza Burgos during the showdown portion while fascinating choreography and smiles enchanted the viewers during the street dancing. As the city government gives value in delivering effective social services to the people, last January 23, 2023 the City Government of Vigan through the City Social Welfare and Development Office in cooperation with the different frontline offices, agencies and the non-government organizations of the city gathered to celebrate the Social Services Night at Plaza Burgos, Vigan City.
The main highlight of the event is the Miss Social Services 2023 wherein representatives from various organizations proudly ramped their own and unique beauty, talent and wit. In the end, the lady from Barangay Raois Ms. Raquel Bueno which is an active Barangay Health Worker hailed as the first ever Miss Social Services. Early in the morning, the different Social Services Offices and NGOs held a motorcade around the city afterwards, City Mayor Jose “Bonito” Singson Jr. together with 8th City Council, representative from the Department of Social Welfare and Development – RFO 1 and the City Social Welfare and Development Office led by Ma. Celerina Agcamaran distributed food packs to the Barangay Health Workers, Tanods and Nutrition Scholars.

Last January 24, 2023, the ballroom and zumba enthusiasts gathered at Plaza Burgos to have fun during the Metro Vigan Zumba Club and Balik Vigan Night wherein aside from unlimited dances, raffle draws and games were done. City Mayor Jose “Bonito” Singson Jr., Vice Mayor Randy Singson, SPM Jay Andia, SPM Larry Raboy, SPM Ada Joana Fe Artajos and SPM Nestor Pajaro personally joined the event.
In his speech, Mayor Singson expressed his gratitude to each individual who are joined the event. He also assured that the City Government will continue to bring services and programs for the betterment of the city.
Every January 25, the City celebrates its Fiesta wherein flocks of locals cheerfully anticipate the grand parade where floats of different agencies, organizations and establishments joined with festive vibes and a lot of tokens were given to the viewers.

In the evening, dazzling young Bigueñas competed in the Miss Vigan 2023 at Plaza Burgos, Vigan City last January 25, 2023 during the Fiesta and ABC Night wherein Mayor Jose “Bonito” Singson Jr., Vice Mayor Randy Singson and Vigan City ABC President Constante Benzon welcomed each of guest and spectators while Governor Jerry Singson, Vice Governor Ryan Singson, Former Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson Jr. delivered their speech wherein they congratulated the City Government for gracing such event as well as they highlighted that there will be more investors and progress in the heritage city in the upcoming years through programs and projects that both national and provincial government will be award to the city.
Guest Artists such as Miss Pops Fernandez and Miss Vina Morales added the fun as they performed with high energy and passion in front of the biguenos.
After series of Question and Answer Portions as well presentation of evening gown, swimsuit and creative costumes, the young lady from the cluster of Barangay Purok A Bassit, Nagsangalan and San Jose through Miss Austhrie Sanchez was hailed as the Miss Vigan 2023 which she will represent the Heritage City in the next edition of the Miss Ilocos Sur in 2024.

In view of youth empowerment, the City Government of Vigan through the City Youth and Development Office together with the Office of the Pederasyong Panlungsod ng Sanguniang Kabataan ng Vigan led by PPSK Vice President Mary Ann Ataup steered the SK Night: Bigueno Agtutubo Night last January 26, 2023 at Plaza Burgos, Vigan City.
“I’m deeply honored to inform you that the 8th City Council has passed the City Ordinance No. 33 Series of 2022 entitled as PAMMADAYAW: Recognition Program to all Bigueno Examinees who passed the professional License Examination and BAR Examination and Providing Incentives to Top Notchers in the City of Vigan. Thus, this will further empower our youth to be more active and strive excellence in their chosen careers.” PPSK Ataup said.
She also said that this year’s SK Night included the achievers in sports to give recognitions in their passion and dedication in the field of sports.

In line with the promotion of gender equality in the Heritage City of Vigan, the City Government of Vigan in partnership with the Maris Ti Ayat Inc and the Bulalayaw Ti Vigan Inc. held the LGBTQIA+ Day and Night last January 28, 2023 as a closing event of this year’s Longganisa Festival.
Community services such as free haircut and hair color were done after the parade in the morning while talents in singing, dancing and acting were showcased in the Loud and Proud Production Competition at night.
The night was even more fun as invited guests from Achilles and Festival Queen Candidates joined the night with some additional performances.
