LGU-Quezon City Extended their Help to the Affected Bigueños After the Magnitude 7.0 Earthquake

The Local Government Unit of Quezon City led by Mayor Joy Belmonte extended their support to the Heritage City of Vigan through the deployment of its DRRM personnel, social workers, doctors, engineers and architects to further the City’s response to the effects of the devastating earthquake that jolted the City last July 27, 2022. The LGU-Quezon City brought with them relief goods and tents that was personally received by the City Mayor Jose “Bonito’ Singson Jr. together with CPSDRRMO Milagros Alquiza.

As part of the LGU – Quezon City’s Rapid Damage Assessments and Needs Analysis Operations to the Heritage City of Vigan, their Team leader and CPSDRRMO Erwin Valdez and Dr. Olive Esquivias from their Health Department held stress debriefing session in cooperation with the Abra-Ilocos Mental Health Support Group of volunteers. Among the various emergency personnel such as the Vigan Emergency Response Team (VERT) , University of Northern Philippines Emergency Response Team (UNIVERT), Vigan Emergency Youth Responders and DRRM Coordinators of Public Elementary of the city.

Meanwhile, the LGU – Quezon City’s deployed social workers together with the City Social Welfare and Development Office and the Barangay Ayusan Sur Council prepared snacks of the participants. A group of professional engineers and architects from the LGU – QC and LGU – Vigan also conducted inspections in public schools, ancestral houses and other infrastructures in the city.

Furthermore, the volunteers from the LGU – Quezon City successfully assessed 53 infrastructures in Vigan and also provided relief goods, hot meals and hygiene kits to over 20 families along the coastal area.

Mayor Singson on behalf of the City Government, gratified each of the LGU – Quezon City personnel a Token of Appreciation for their efforts and volunteerism in helping the Bigueños.
