In line with the City’s celebration of this year’s National Nutrition Month Celebration and the strong commitment of the City Government of Vigan to deliver health services towards the Bigueños, the City Nutrition Committee through the City Health Office and City Nutrition Officer Jeno Josef Figuracion launched the First Cycle of Weekly Iron-Folic Acid (WIFA) Supplementary Program among 10 to 19 years old female students of private schools in the city last July 14, 2021 at Barangay Paratong Covered Court.
The said activity aims to address the micronutrient deficiencies among Bigueña adolescents to ensure their safety during pregnancy or giving birth.
“This time we wanted to provide our Bigueña adolescents from private schools because this activity is usually done for female students among public schools,” Figuracion said.
“We have 12 weeks to complete this cycle to ensure that our beneficiaries will prevent or lessen the threat of iron deficiency anemia, low birth weight and preterm birth in the future,” Figuracion added.
In the past years, the said activity is one of the various projects of the City Government through the City Health Office in the public schools of the city.
