Grade School Students Get Free Immunization

grade-school-students-get-free-immunizationIn line with the National Immunization Month for Adolescents, the Department of Health (DOH) Region 1, in collaboration with the Department of Education (DEPED), launched the first free school-based adolescent immunization held in the Vigan Culture and Trade Center last August 12, 2016.
The school-based adolescent immunization is for all Grade seven to ten students in public schools. Each student will be injected with two vaccines on each arm, particularly Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) and Tetanus-Diphtheria (TD) plus the universal human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for females
Mr. Benjamin Castillo, Development Management Officer V from the Department of Health, Region Office, who was present during the event, reiterated the Health Agenda of President Duterte, putting emphasis on the family planning program and on the provision of medical check-ups for everyone particularly the poor.
Mayor Carlo Medina thanked the Department of Health for continuously implementing programs for the health of the children. He assured those present that the City will keep exploring ways to ensure that all Bigueños especially the children are always on top of their health. Since most of the posters at the venue were IECs on the effects of smoking, Mayor Carlo advised the students not to try smoking, citing that he himself have never tried it.
For the whole month of August, a total of 441 female pupils age 9-10 years old will be given the HPV vaccine and 2,743 pupils from Grade 1 to Grade 7 will be availing the MMR and TD Immunization. Parents were consulted and were asked to sign consent forms before the children were vaccinated.
