Contributions of the older persons in nation-building were given emphasis once more as the country celebrated the Elderly Filipino Week from October 1-7, with the theme “Nakatatanda: Tanglaw ng Bayan, Kaagapay sa Matuwid na Daan”.
The City Government of Vigan through the City Social Welfare and Development Office, the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs and the Federation of Senior Citizens participated in activities that gave more color to the celebration, starting with a Eucharistic celebration at the Conversion of St. Paul Cathedral on October 1 followed by a motorcade on October 2, a lakbay aral to Pagudpud on October 3 and a livelihood training on fish processing at the City Hall parking area on October 4.
Medical, dental and optical services were given free to all senior citizens of the city. A visit to “Balay Taripato” in Magsingal and Cabugao on October 6 gave the elderlies a chance to mingle and interact with other senior citizens. On the last day, they were also given souvenirs and gifts.
